FAQs

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a safe, credible and scientifically-researched form of modern psychotherapy. It can be effective in helping people with all sorts of emotional issues, from helping alleviate anxiety, stress and depression to boosting confidence and self-esteem, tackling fears and phobias and helping with addictions including smoking, alcohol and drugs, aiding weight management and improving sports performance.

What is the Initial Consultation?

The Initial Consultation (IC) provides an opportunity for us to meet for the first time in person. I shall gather some background information and you will have an opportunity to describe what sort of help you are looking for and what you would like to achieve by coming to the sessions.

What will happen in a typical session?

A typical session will comprise firstly of talking therapy (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Brief Solution Focused Therapy), followed by hypnotherapy – guided relaxation on the couch tailored to your specific needs.

Will I lose control?

You will remain in control the entire time. Hypnotherapy should not be confused with stage hypnosis often used in the world of entertainment.

Trance is a very natural state, a bit like daydreaming. Most people go into trance many times a day. When you are in this state, we have access to the subconscious mind which is highly susceptible to positive suggestion and possesses the creative ability to come up with new solutions and ideas.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends very much on you and what you wish to address during the sessions. Everyone is different, but for feelings of anxiety and stress I would recommend 8 – 12 sessions. However, for fears and phobias only 4 sessions would be required.
