FAQs

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a safe, credible and scientifically-researched form of modern psychotherapy. It is used to work at a subconscious level in order to bring about effective and long-lasting change in the way you think, behave and feel. Most people find hypnotherapy to be an extremely relaxing and enjoyable experience.

What is the Initial Consultation?

The Initial Consultation (IC) provides an opportunity for us to meet for the first time, either via Zoom or in person. It is an opportunity to talk about what you would like help with and what you wish to achieve by coming to the sessions. I can also explain about the techniques and approaches I use. Together we can agree on a way forward that is best suited to your individual needs and preferences.

What will happen in a typical session?

A typical session is different for each individual, as there is no ‘one size fits all’. I aim to craft a tailor made approach for each person, depending on what you wish to achieve, creating an appropriate balance between solution-focused interaction, visualisation techniques and working at a subconscious level through hypnotic trance.

Will I lose control?

Hypnotherapy is perfectly safe and you will remain in control the entire time.  Hypnotherapy should not be confused with stage hypnosis which is often used in the world of entertainment.

Hypnotic trance is a very natural state, an altered state of consciousness, a bit like daydreaming. Most people go into trance several times a day, for example driving on a familiar route, or immersed in a good book/film. When you are in a hypnotic state, the subconscious mind is accessible – this part of your mind is highly susceptible to positive suggestion and possesses the creative ability to come up with new solutions and ideas that are right for you as an individual. You cannot get ‘stuck’ in hypnotic trance.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends very much on you and what you wish to address during our time together. However, I would recommend a minimum of 6 sessions in order to embed the change work and gain maximum benefit.
